Scale band

A size bracket for events. The point of the bracket isn’t the headcount, it’s that each bracket comes with its own org shape and its own paperwork. Band 1, the community meetup at roughly 30 to 150 people, runs on a lead organizer, a couple of co-organizers, and hats. Band 2, the mid-size community event at roughly 150 to 600, runs on six to nine owned functions with a named person on each. Band 3, the small conference at roughly 600 to 2,000, runs on departments with trained team leads, a split between producer and technical director, and safety as a named job. Your band is set by capacity and by how many things happen at once in the room, not by ambition. Filmmakers Connect sits at the Band 1 to Band 2 transition.

Source: Course-coined term. The bands themselves are not course inventions: the boundaries fall where the published organizer guides visibly change shape. Meetup’s leadership-team documentation describes Band 1. The TEDx Organizer Guide and the DevOpsDays Organizing Guide both describe Band 2 structures, and DevOpsDays sits there in practice at around 250 first-year attendees. No single published source names or numbers these bands; the label is ours, the evidence underneath it is theirs.
