MICE

Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions: the label the professional business-events industry uses for itself. It covers corporate meetings, incentive travel programs, conferences, and trade exhibitions, which is to say the paid, corporate-funded end of events. It matters to a community organizer for two reasons. First, most published event-management material sits under this banner, so a lot of the advice you’ll read is written for larger rooms and corporate budgets. Second, in the Philippines this is where the formal profession lives, so it’s also the route if you ever want credentials and a career track rather than a community.

In the Philippines the industry body is PACEOS, the Philippine Association of Convention/Exhibition Organizers and Suppliers (paceos.org), which runs the Philippine MICE Academy (philmiceacademy.com) offering certification courses in event management, event design, and strategic planning. PACEOS also initiated MICE Roadmap 2030 with government agencies to position the country as an Asia-Pacific MICE destination.
