Event director
The function that owns the event’s vision, its final calls, and its external face. Sponsors, venues, and press deal with this person, and every unresolved question eventually lands here. The common mistake is to read the role as doing the most work. It is the opposite: the director’s job is to make decisions fast enough that the rest of the team is never blocked, and to make sure the same decision does not have to route through them twice. Different worlds use different names for the identical function. TEDx says lead organizer, festivals say festival director, meetup platforms say organizer.
Source: The TEDx Organizer Guide’s lead organizer and licensee, described as the ultimate steward of the event and the person who “should know the rules and processes and everything it takes to put on a great event.” The festival version comes from Berklee’s festival director profile, which describes the job as ensuring “that everyone has what they need, that all of the parts are moving smoothly,” and notes that many festival directors began as volunteers or event operations staff.
